Dorset Drive at Ridge Park

The second depression along Dorset Drive is near Ridge Park. This depression is centered near the intersection of Dorset Drive and Gladstone Drive. It is also serviced by storm sewer that is hydraulically connected to Ridge Park which is a detention facility for Butterfield Ridge Unit 1,2,3,4, and 5 subdivisions.

Ridge Park fills up until its berm is crested and water flows towards Butterfield Road. Approximately 98 acres are tributary to Ridge Park, and this tributary area is generally bounded by Brighton Road to the north, Chatham Drive to the east, Butterfield Road to the south, and Cromwell Drive to the west.

In 2018, the City of Wheaton contracted Engineering Resource Associates to complete the 2018 Flood Study Project VI which included the Dorset Drive at Ridge Park Flood Prone Area. The purpose of this study was to determine the extent and frequency of overland flooding into the area’s homes. The area was surveyed and modeled, and an alternative analysis was completed. The final report and an inundation map can be found below.

Construction (2022)

In 2022, the City of Wheaton constructed the alternative identified in the 2018 study. A 60" elliptical pipe replaced the existing 42" pipe. The Park District access drive was paved and lowered to act as a secondary overflow for Dorset Drive. This project provided protection for overland flooding up to a 100-year event.
