Researching Your Home

Interested in learning more about your historic property? Ever wonder how old your house is? Who has lived there in the past? What did it look like years ago?

Whether your interest is a home's construction date, past owners, or its architecture, Home History Research Help sessions are offered each May at the Wheaton Public Library featuring guidance by Historic Commission members and the library’s Genealogy & Local History Specialist.

These 30-minute sessions provide one-on-one help to discover available resources, where to find them, and what each resource may reveal. Registration is required for the Home History Research Help sessions offered each spring. Watch the City of Wheaton newsletter or the library calendar for more information.

Missed the dates for scheduled Home History Research help but still interested in researching the history of your home?

You can start your research today by visiting the library’s Local History page or the Historic Commission Guide to Wheaton Resources. These comprehensive listings of resources feature where to find:

  • Architectural/Building Plans
  • Land Deeds
  • Historic Tax Records
  • Maps
  • Census Records, and more
