Prison Rape Elimination Act of 2003 (PREA)

The Wheaton Police Department has a policy that provides guidance for complying with the Prison Rape Elimination Act of 2003 (PREA) and the implementing regulation that establishes standards (PREA Rule) to prevent, detect and respond to sexual abuse, harassment, and retaliation against prisoners in the Wheaton Police Department Temporary Holding Facility.

The Wheaton Police Department has zero tolerance toward all forms of sexual abuse and sexual harassment. The Department will not tolerate retaliation against any person who reports sexual abuse or sexual harassment or who cooperates with a sexual abuse or sexual harassment investigation. The Wheaton Police Department will take immediate action to protect prisoners who are reasonably believed to be subject to a substantial risk of imminent sexual abuse.

To make a report of Sexual Abuse and/or Sexual Harassment on behalf of a prisoner:

  1. Call 911 if you are within the city limits of Wheaton.
  2. Respond in person to the Wheaton Police. Department at 900 W Liberty Drive, Wheaton, IL. 60187.
  3. Contact Police Services at 630-260-2161.
