[ARCHIVED] Buckle Up! Wheaton Police Conducting Traffic Safety Campaign Aug. 20-26

police car

To help ensure the safety of everyone in our community, during the week of Aug. 20-26, 2023, the Wheaton Police Department and the Traffic Unit will be conducting a traffic safety campaign with a focus on seat belt safety and child car seat safety.

Seatbelts

One of the smartest choices passengers and drivers can make is buckling up. Seatbelts reduce the risk of fatal injury in a crash by 45%.

The state of Illinois requires that all passengers, regardless of age or location in the vehicle, must be secured in a seat belt or an approved child restraint system. Please remember to buckle up for every trip, and require everyone in your vehicle to do the same.

Child Car Seat Safety

When it comes to selecting the right car seat for your child, one size does not fit all. It’s important to follow these safety tips when it comes to your child’s car seat:

  • Make sure to get the right car seat for your child’s age, weight, and height
  • Register your seat right away so you can be notified if there’s a safety recall
  • Read the instructions for both your vehicle and your car seat
  • Assistance from certified child safety seat technicians is available from the Wheaton Police Department. You can visit the City’s website to request an appointment with our certified safety personnel.
