The community is welcome to attend a ceremony on the Wheaton Public Library’s west plaza unveiling Wheaton’s public art project for College of DuPage's Warhol Public Pop Art Challenge at 4:30 p.m. Monday, May 22, 2023. The celebration is hosted by the Wheaton Public Library, the Downtown Wheaton Association, the City of Wheaton, and the Wheaton Chamber of Commerce.
The art display at the library’s west plaza will feature four portraits of prominent Wheaton figures recreated by local artist Geoff Bevington in Andy Warhol’s signature pop art style. The figures were chosen by the Chamber of Commerce’s Arts, Business, & Culture Committee, made up of almost 30 local business owners, nonprofit organizations and community stakeholders. While the identities of the four famous faces remain a secret until the unveiling, they will be introduced by local leaders including:
- Wheaton Mayor Phil Suess
- Wheaton College President Dr. Philip Ryken
- President of the DuPage County Historical Museum Foundation Marty Keller
- Director of the McAninch Arts Center Diana Martinez
The 20 ft. wide by 7 ft. tall art installation will overlook the library’s west plaza throughout the summer in celebration of Andy Warhol Portfolios: A Life in Pop, presented by the College of DuPage’s McAninch Arts Center (MAC). The Wheaton Public Library is located at 225 N. Cross St.
