[ARCHIVED] Save the Date for Native Illinois Plant Sale April 29

native plant sale

Wheaton has an opportunity to “grow native” with the return of the Native Plant Sale from 8:30 a.m. to 11 a.m. Saturday, April 29 at the City’s Public Works Storage Yard, 820 W. Liberty Drive. This event is provided through the partnership of the City's Environmental Improvement Commission, City of Wheaton and Wheaton Park District to encourage the community to choose eco-friendly plants for their landscapes.

Native plants such as flowers, shrubs, trees and grasses sold are all varieties native to northern Illinois, which make them drought-resistant and hardy choices for our climate.

To promote water conservation and composting, this event also offers you an opportunity to pre-order rain barrels and composters for pickup at the sale or delivery to your home. Mail-in orders are due April 21 and online orders are due April 25 for rain barrels and composters. See more information or order through the Conservation Foundation. Several different rain barrel sizes and models are available that allow you to capture rainwater for use in your yard. Composters allow you to compost kitchen and yard waste in an environmentally safe way to create aerated compost for garden and lawn use.

The list of plants available at the Native Plant Sale is now available for you to preview before the sale.

Please note that cash will not be accepted at the sale; you must pay by credit card or check.
