The Wheaton Bicyclist and Pedestrian Commission announces that a QR Code to electronically access the Wheaton Bike Map is permanently available on a metal plaque by the Prairie Path map at Mile Marker Zero, located at Liberty and Carlton Avenues.
The Wheaton Bike Map connects the Illinois Prairie Path users with the various bike paths throughout Wheaton. The map can be accessed with an Android or iPhone. Scan the QR code with your phone’s camera just as you would with restaurant menus. This is an easy and convenient way to carry the Wheaton Path map with you on a walk or bike ride. The Commission website also has the bike path map available for downloading or printing. Printed maps can be found at the Wheaton Public Library.
The newly expanded Wheaton Bicyclist and Pedestrian Commission encourages walking and biking in Wheaton. Its mission is to represent walkers, runners, and bikers in the planning of safer streets, paths and sidewalks. In addition, the Commission organizes group bike rides that have included the popular History Ride. Past tours in Wheaton have included themes such as World War I or II History, Wheaton’s role in the Underground Railroad, as well as a tour of Mid-Century Modern Houses found within the community.
The Commission meets monthly, with its next meeting Feb. 15. Members of the public can join the meeting in person at City Hall. The commission is looking for more members. Those who might be interested can access the City of Wheaton website and go to the Commission’s page to apply for membership or directly through this web address.
