Data from the 2020 Census shows the populations between Wheaton’s four City Council districts (North, East, South, and West) have become more uneven over the past decade. In 2010, the difference between the number of residents in Wheaton’s most populous and least populous council districts was 9.4%; today that difference is 14.26%. During a previous City Council discussion, the Council directed staff to develop several options of how the districts could be redrawn to achieve a more equal distribution of residents in each.
During the Aug. 22 Planning Session, which will take place at 7 p.m. Monday, Aug. 22, 2022 at City Hall, 303 W. Wesley St., the City Council will review three proposals for redistricting the City’s North, East, South, and West Council Districts. Detailed maps for each proposal, and details of how the City developed them, can be found in this informational packet. Residents can attend the Planning Session in-person or on Zoom and provide comment on the proposals. The Zoom login/call-in information is listed below.
If you are unable to attend but would like to provide feedback, you can share comments with the City Council by email at allcouncil@wheaton.il.us. Be on the lookout for additional information posted to the City’s website on the redistricting process and notices of future meetings where it will be further discussed.
