At approximately 10 a.m. on Wednesday, July 27, 2022 the Wheaton Fire Department was dispatched to a reported structure fire in the 400 block of North President Street. Upon arrival, fire crews identified fire and heavy smoke in a first-floor apartment of the apartment complex. The fire was brought under control within minutes and it did not spread to any of the adjoining apartments in the complex. All occupants safely evacuated, and the fire did not cause any injuries.

Investigators from the Wheaton Fire Department conducted a fire investigation. The cause of the fire is undetermined but not suspicious in nature. Damage estimates are unavailable at this time. The City of Wheaton Building Department was notified and the apartment was deemed unsafe for occupancy. The fire was confined to one unit and the remainder of the building remains occupied.
