This time of year, road and underground utility improvement projects the City plans and budgets for are typically underway, including asphalt resurfacing, road reconstruction and water main/sewer replacement. However due to the strike by International Union of Operating Engineers Local 150, the City and its contractors are unable to acquire materials needed for asphalt paving. The end of the strike is unknown.
The projects planned for 2022 are listed on the City’s website at www.wheaton.il.us/roads. These projects are divided by work to be completed by a contractor for the City, listed under “Annual Road Improvement Program,” and projects to be completed by the City’s Public Works Department, listed under “Road Maintenance Program.”
Many other communities are experiencing similar delays with their projects due to this strike. We will provide an update once this situation has been resolved and work begins, and you will be able to follow the progress of many of these projects at www.wheaton.il.us/roads throughout the construction season.
