[ARCHIVED] Wheaton Police and District 200 Encourage Community to Attend Neighborhood Roll Calls

Neighborhood Roll Call 5

Starting in June, the Wheaton Police Department will bring back its Neighborhood Roll Call community outreach program to connect with residents and share pertinent information. This year, in addition to partnering with the Wheaton Park District to host these events at parks, the Wheaton Police Department is also partnering with District 200, which will host many of these community events at Wheaton school sites. Neighborhood Roll Call events this summer will also include information on how District 200 and the Wheaton Police Department are working together to keep Wheaton’s school communities safe.

A total of 16 Neighborhood Roll Call events will take place throughout the community to provide each neighborhood with opportunities to participate. Modeled after the roll call meetings Wheaton Police hold each day to share information from one shift to the next, the Police Department will take their roll calls out into the community, covering topics such as:

  • Calls for service from the past 24 hours
  • Traffic issues and concerns in the surrounding area
  • Crime trends being seen within and around Wheaton
  • Community Unit School District 200 safety and security information
  • Future community events and opportunities with the Wheaton Police Department
  • Opportunities to meet with Wheaton Police Officers and School District 200 staff

“We were thrilled to meet with hundreds of residents last year, and we’re excited to be back this summer with new information and the addition of our partners in District 200,” said Wheaton Police Department Sgt. Angela Smith.

"The safety and security of our students and schools are a priority in District 200," said Dr. Charlie Kyle, District 200 Assistant Superintendent of Administrative Services and District Safety Officer.  "It's essential for us to have conversations in our community about how we partner with our first responders to keep our community a safe place to live and attend school. We appreciate the Wheaton Police Department for all they do to partner with us, including expanding their roll call opportunities to our school sites."

Each Neighborhood Roll Call will begin at 6:30 p.m. with a presentation by the Wheaton Police Department and District 200 representatives, followed by an opportunity for participants to ask questions and get to know the officers who serve their area. These are family-friendly events with activities for children, so bring the whole family, and encourage your neighbors to attend, too. You may also want to bring lawn chairs. Rain dates are noted where applicable. For events without a rain date listed, the event will take place inside the school in the event of rain.
