[ARCHIVED] Citizen’s Police Academy Now Accepting Applications

The Wheaton Police Department is accepting applications now through June 30 for a 10-week Citizen’s Police Academy, a chance for community members to learn the inner workings of police operations, practices, and objectives. Classes will take place from 6:30 p.m.-9:30 p.m. Tuesdays, September 6 through November 8 at the Wheaton Police Department, 900 W Liberty Drive, and nearby locations.

The academy will consist of classroom instruction, interactive discussions, and hands-on practical exercises focusing on various aspects of police work, including investigations, forensics, patrol response, traffic stops, specialty teams, critical incidents, and more.

To be eligible, individuals must be at least 21 years old and live or work in the City of Wheaton. All applicants will be subjected to a criminal background investigation. The academy will be limited to 20 individuals. Classes are free and will be held at the Wheaton Police Department and nearby locations.

Applications are due by June 30, 2022. You can apply through the City’s website at www.wheaton.il.us/cpa, or you can mail your application to the Wheaton Police Department, Attn: Patricia Potter, 900 W Liberty Drive, Wheaton, IL 60187. The Wheaton Police Department will notify citizens if they have been accepted to the academy by August 1.
