[ARCHIVED] COVID-19 Update for the Community

Newsflash_Covid-19 Information

On Thursday, Aug. 26, 2021, Governor Pritzker announced that all people over the age of 2 will be required to wear masks in public indoor settings – regardless of vaccination status – effective Monday, Aug. 30, 2021, due to increased COVID-19 infection and hospitalization rates in Illinois. This state mandate applies to indoor spaces such as stores, restaurants, businesses and government buildings, in addition to facilities with mask mandates already in place, such as schools and healthcare facilities.

To comply with this mandate, beginning Monday, Aug. 30, 2021:

  • All visitors to any City facility older than age 2 will be required to wear a mask inside City facilities. City facilities include City Hall, Wheaton Police Department, Wheaton Fire Stations, the Public Works building, Water Division, City Hall Annex, and Wheaton Public Library.
  • City employees will be required to wear a mask within City facilities, except when they can consistently maintain 6 feet of distance (such as when they are in their office or cubicle space) and/or are separated by a physical barrier (such as the plexiglass windows visitors see at the Finance, Building and Police Department counters).
  • In the event that a visitor does not have a face mask with them when entering a City facility, we will make a disposable mask available to them.

There are many ways that you can conduct City business without the need to visit City Hall. You can make utility bill payments, pay parking tickets and submit general City bill payments and much more on the City’s website at Or, use the drive-through drop box just west of City Hall (the entrance is off of Wesley Street) for submitting City bills (no other U.S. mail, please).

COVID-19 vaccines are readily available for anyone age 12 and older through local pharmacies and at the DuPage County Health Department Community Vaccination Clinic at 111 N. County Farm Road in Wheaton. The City encourages community members to get the COVID-19 vaccine to help stop the spread of the virus. For more information or to find a location near you, please see DuPage County Health Department’s website at

We appreciate your help in keeping our community healthy and slowing the spread of COVID-19.
