[ARCHIVED] Hale Street Reopening to Traffic

city hall front

The outdoor dining tents on Hale Street between Front Street and Wesley Street will be removed Dec. 1. The City will reopen Hale Street for vehicle traffic once crews finish removing the tents, which is expected to be by the end of the day Tuesday, Dec. 1.

In response to state restrictions on indoor dining during COVID-19, the City of Wheaton and the Downtown Wheaton Association assisted local restaurants by providing outdoor dining tents for restaurants to collaboratively use in several locations, including Hale Street. Colder temperatures have significantly decreased the use of outdoor dining tents, so the City will be reopening Hale Street to allow traffic to resume and to provide parking for those wanting to pick up orders from local businesses or visit local retailers and businesses.

The City and the Downtown Wheaton Association thank the community for your continued support of all of Wheaton's local businesses. We encourage you to continue patronizing the businesses that are such an important part of our community, many of which offer options such as take-out, delivery, and online orders. Your support is especially needed in these challenging times for small businesses.

As a reminder, the first floor of the Wheaton Place Parking Garage (entrances from Wesley, Front Street and Wheaton Avenue) is available for carry-out orders for local restaurants. Simply call the restaurant once you arrive and let them know your numbered parking spot, and they will bring your order.
