This year perhaps more than ever, our community could use a lift in spirits. The City of Wheaton and the Wheaton Park District are teaming up to encourage everyone to “Light Up Wheaton” by adding lights and decorations outside their homes, businesses, churches, or other organizations throughout the holiday season.
In addition, those who want to show off their lights can register to be added to a tour map of decorated places for the community to see and compete in a new holiday light decorating contest. Homeowners, businesses, churches and other buildings can take part to make sure every corner of our city shines throughout the many different holidays celebrated in Wheaton.
“This season will be different for many of us this year, and lighting up Wheaton is something that we all can do to lift each other up,” said Mayor Phil Suess. “I look forward to seeing our community come together in this way, even if we’re not having the large gatherings that we’d like to have.”
To help Light Up Wheaton, simply put out lights and decorations in the coming weeks for all to see. And, if you’d like to be added to the tour map of Light Up Wheaton stops and enter the contest, register through the Wheaton Park District at wheatonparkdistrict.com/lightupwheaton by Dec. 10. Award winners for the People’s Choice Award and Mayor’s Choice Award will receive $100 in local gift cards.
Make sure you’re following the Wheaton Park District and the City of Wheaton on Facebook so you can vote for your favorite lights and to get your map of Light Up Wheaton holiday stops.
