[ARCHIVED] City Prohibits General Burning of Yard Waste, Garbage, or Other Materials

Open Burning

The City of Wheaton prohibits residents from general open burning of yard waste, garbage, or other materials including leaves.

Recreational and food-related fires conducted within commercial and approved containers such as grills and manufactured portable fireplaces are allowed, provided it is being used within safe and reasonable clearance from any building, structure or vehicle. If attempting small ground bonfires, residents must first attain a special permit from the Fire Department.

With an increased level of seasonal cleanup occurring within the community the City encourages residents served by Lakeshore Recycling to utilize the yard waste pick-up service. Residents can use containers no larger than 35 in size and/or biodegradable paper bags that weigh no more than 50 pounds that have the appropriate yard waste/organics/garbage sticker attached. For more information regarding yard waste pick-up please visit https://www.wheaton.il.us/383/Yard-Waste-Food-Scraps-Organics.
