[ARCHIVED] Main Street Pavement Grinding & Resurfacing Begins Next Week

construction cone

As part of the Downtown Streetscape Project, crews will be grinding down the pavement on Main Street from Illinois Street to Seminary Avenue starting on Tuesday, Sept. 8, 2020. Grinding is expected to take approximately four days, followed by placing new pavement the week of Sept. 14.

This work will require intermittent detours for southbound traffic only, directing traffic west on Wesley Street, south on West Street, and east on Roosevelt Road to Main Street. This route is to accommodate semi traffic that uses Main Street as a thoroughfare. Crews will keep a lane open for northbound traffic throughout this work. The City expects the intermittent detours to be in place during the day the weeks of Sept. 8-11 and Sept. 14-18. Lanes will reopen each evening.

In addition to detours, no parking will be allowed in area where crews are working each day. Crews will post signs where no parking is allowed. Parking will reopen each evening and on the weekends.

To keep traffic moving during this work, the stoplights along Main Street in the project area will be placed on flashing red for all directions of traffic and should be treated as four-way stop.

Please note that once the pavement grinding is complete, crews will apply a layer of oil before placing the new pavement. Drivers should use caution when driving through the construction zone and may want to consider an alternate route.

Thank you for your patience as we complete these improvements.
