[ARCHIVED] Police Respond to Early-Morning Vehicle Burglaries

police general photo

At approximately 3:00 a.m. this morning, a resident reported observing in-progress burglaries to vehicles in the area of the 1000 S. block of Gamon Road. Wheaton Police located two dark-colored vehicles driven by suspects involved in this incident.

Officers attempted to stop the suspect vehicles, but they refused to stop, and a short pursuit occurred. Officers were able to safely disable one of the vehicles with a spike strip, which helped put a stop to the pursuit before it became too dangerous. The suspects were able to flee the area in the other vehicle traveling east on Roosevelt Road. The disabled vehicle, a 2016 Lincoln MKX, had been stolen from a residence in Glen Ellyn prior to this incident. The vehicle was towed from the scene and processed for evidence. There were no injuries to innocent bystanders or officers.

Residents in the neighborhoods surrounding the east Roosevelt Road corridor are encouraged to check their own home security recordings to check for the suspects and vehicles involved in this incident. The Wheaton Police Department is a member of the Ring Neighbors App and an assistance request is forthcoming.

The Wheaton Police Department encourages residents to secure all belongings in their vehicles and not to leave the vehicle’s keys inside it. Please remove valuables from your vehicles or lock them in the trunk of the vehicle.

Wheaton Police will continue to investigate this incident. Anyone needing to make a police report in relationship to this incident can call 9-1-1. Individuals with surveillance video or any other information are asked to contact Investigations Lieutenant Cooley at  630-260-2077.
