City Hall and the Wheaton Police Department lobby will be reopening to the public on Monday, June 22, 2020, with several changes in place for the safety of the community and City staff.
In following the Illinois Department of Health guidance for reopening public spaces during the COVID-19 pandemic, face coverings will be required for all visitors to City Hall and the Police Department. Please be sure to put on a face covering before entering either facility.
The City will also have several changes in place to ensure that visitors and staff can maintain at least 6 feet of distance from each other. To achieve this distancing, there will be a one-way traffic pattern through City Hall. All visitors must enter from the north entrance of City Hall, which is the parking lot side of the building. This is an ADA accessible entrance. To visit the Building Department or Finance Department counters, please follow the signs directing visitors to the corresponding lines, and stand on the floor markings that designate 6 feet of distance from the next person in line. When leaving, please follow signs and proceed toward the south doors of City Hall. If you require an ADA accessible exit, please use the elevator on the north end of the building to exit.
Some other changes you will see in place include glass partitions at the public-facing department counters to protect citizens and staff, and hand sanitizer will be available for use. Our staff will be frequently cleaning shared surfaces throughout the day, too.
In addition to these changes, the Finance and Building Departments will be adopting uniform hours of 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Friday.
For the sake of other visitors to City Hall and our staff, we ask that you please stay home if you or a member of your family are currently ill. If you are visiting the Police Department and are ill or have been in contact with someone who is ill, please use the call box near the door and notify our staff of this circumstance. A staff member will meet you outside to assist you.
Finally, we will continue to deliver many services in a way that will not require you to make a trip to City Hall. You can make utility bill payments, pay parking tickets and submit general City bill payments and much more on the City’s website at www.wheaton.il.us/billpay. Or, use the drive-through drop box just west of City Hall (the entrance is off of Wesley Street) for submitting City bills (no other U.S. mail, please).
