The City of Wheaton and the Wheaton Police Department are aware of a group of people planning to assemble in the area of Memorial Park around 1 p.m. today, Wednesday, June 3. The group has advertised a peaceful protest. Protests of this nature are a protected form of the Constitutional right to free speech and assembly.
The Wheaton Police have been in contact with the event’s organizers, and officers will be present for everyone’s safety. We expect this will be a peaceful gathering and we respect the right of people to assemble peacefully, but we remind attendees that violent, criminal acts will not be tolerated.
The Wheaton Police Department and City of Wheaton will continue to keep the community up-to-date. To receive updates, follow the City of Wheaton on Facebook and Twitter (@CityOfWheaton), or sign up to receive email updates (www.wheaton.il.us/emailupdates).
