[ARCHIVED] Fire Department Responds to Building Fire

At approximately 12:15 p.m. on Tuesday, Jan. 21, 2020, the Wheaton Fire Department was dispatched to a reported structure fire in a building in the 1000 block of College Avenue. Upon arrival, fire crews identified a fire on the first floor of a combined commercial and apartment building.  

The fire was brought under control within minutes. The building was unoccupied at the time of the fire, and the incident did not result in any injuries.

Investigators from the Wheaton Fire Department conducted a fire investigation. The cause of the fire is deemed accidental and appears to be electrical in nature. Damage estimates are unavailable at this time.  

The City of Wheaton Building Department was called to the scene. The Wheaton Fire Department was also assisted on the scene by the Wheaton Police Department and several fire departments from neighboring communities. The building was turned back over to the property owner after the fire.
