[ARCHIVED] Fire Department Responds to Garage Fire

At approximately 9:00 p.m. on Monday, Nov. 25, 2019 the Wheaton Fire Department was dispatched to a reported structure fire in the 200 block of West Illinois Street. Upon arrival, fire crews identified a fully involved detached garage fire with a vehicle inside. 

The fire was brought under control within minutes. The fire caused heat damage to several adjoining structures and vehicles. All occupants of the adjoining residences were evacuated safely, and the fire did not result in any injuries. 

Investigators from the Wheaton Fire Department conducted a fire investigation. The cause of the fire is undetermined, and damage estimates are unavailable at this time. The City of Wheaton Building Department was on the scene. The Wheaton Fire Department was also assisted on the scene by the Wheaton Police Department and several fire departments from neighboring communities. The building was turned back over to the property owner after the fire, and all occupants were allowed to re-occupy the adjoining residences.
