The Wheaton Police and the Glen Ellyn Police Departments are investigating four residential burglaries that occurred in the early morning hours of Monday, Aug. 26, 2019. One burglary has been reported in Wheaton in the area of Forest Avenue and Stoddard Avenue. The three burglaries reported in Glen Ellyn occurred in the area of Western Avenue and Anthony Street between the hours of approximately 2:30 a.m. and 6 a.m. Entry was gained while the residents were sleeping and items were then removed.
Residents in the area with exterior cameras and video door bells are asked to check for any suspicious activity during the early morning hours. Please contact the Glen Ellyn Police Department at 630-469-1187 or Lieutenant Bill Cooley of the Wheaton Police Department at 630-260-2077 if any suspicious activity was observed or recorded.
Residents are asked to secure their homes at all times, even while occupied, to reduce the chances of becoming a victim. These cases remain under investigation.
The Wheaton Police Department also took numerous burglary to motor vehicle reports that occurred between Wednesday, Aug. 21, and Thursday, Aug. 22, 2019. The burglaries occurred in the areas of the Dorset Drive, Richton Drive, and Sherwood Place.
To deter criminals, the Wheaton Police Department would like to remind the public of the following crime prevention tips:
- Always lock your vehicle when it is unattended.
- Do not leave a spare key inside the vehicle unless it is well-hidden.
- Do not leave valuables inside the vehicle.
- Use exterior lights or motion detectors on your property to deter criminals.
- Report suspicious persons or noises to 9-1-1.
These cases also remain under investigation.
