The City of Wheaton has just received notice from Lakeshore Recycling Systems that the hauler will be suspending recycling collection for this week’s remaining routes, as this week’s extreme weather continues to affect their operations.
Pickup of ONLY garbage will continue to take place one day later for Thursday and Friday routes:
- If your pickup is normally on Thursday, only garbage will be collected on Friday, Feb. 1. Recycling will not be collected.
- If your pickup is normally on Friday, only garbage will be collected on Saturday, Feb. 2. Recycling will not be collected.
The City of Wheaton encourages residents who are on normally on Thursday and Friday routes to hold onto your recycling until next week. If you place your recycling cart at the curb for pickup on Feb. 1-2, crews will collect it as garbage.
Lakeshore notified the City about suspended recycling collection today and stated this was a last-resort measure due to equipment issues caused by the extreme weather and problems with the processing facilities for recyclable materials.
Lakeshore apologizes for the inconvenience this may cause residents and will return to its normal schedule and operations starting Monday morning, Feb. 4.
