Due to intensive construction work on Front Street, the City will be diverting daytime Front Street traffic between Main Street and Cross Street during much of the week of July 16. Signs will help direct traffic from Front Street south across the railroad tracks to Liberty, east to Cross, and north to Front Street.
This detour will be in effect so crews can connect underground drains, install new manholes, remove pavement and install new pavement. When possible, one lane of traffic will be allowed through this area, but the City expects a detour to be in place throughout much of the week to ensure the safety of motorists and construction crews.
Parking on this block of Front Street will not be available during this work. However, the City has made Lot 4 available for customer parking throughout this project. It is located along Liberty Drive, just south of the railroad tracks. Look for signs noting “Customer Parking Only.” Parking is also always available in the Wheaton Place garage on the north side of the railroad tracks.
Thank you for your patience as the City continues with infrastructure and streetscape improvements in downtown Wheaton. For more information about this project, visit www.wheaton.il.us/downtownstreescape.
