[ARCHIVED] Road Closures Associated with 2018 Independence Day Events

The Wheaton Park District will be hosting the Independence Day Fireworks and Parade on July 3 and July 4, respectively.

Fireworks Activities

The 2018 Fireworks Display will be on Tuesday, July 3, and will be launched at the DuPage County Fairgrounds at 9 p.m. Spectator viewing and activities will begin at 4:30 p.m. at Graf Park.

During this time, motorists can expect traffic delays on:

  • County Farm Road between Roosevelt Road and Geneva Road,
  • Manchester Road between East Street (Winfield) and Gables Boulevard, and
  • Surrounding neighborhood side streets near the DuPage County Fairgrounds.

The Police Department asks that drivers follow posted signs and use extra care for pedestrians going to and from this event.

The 2018 July 4th Parade will be held on Wednesday, July 4, 2018, beginning at 10 a.m. and concluding at noon.

Due to construction in downtown Wheaton, the parade route will be slightly different than usual. It will begin at Main Street and Hawthorne Boulevard, traveling south on Main Street. The parade will turn west (right) onto Wesley Street, concluding in front of City Hall. This year’s announcing and judging will take place on Main Street between Seminary and Wesley.

The following major streets will be closed:

  • North Main Street between Geneva Road and Wesley Street,
  • Wesley Street between Main Street and Wheaton Avenue, and
  • Wheaton Avenue between Wesley and Front Street.

Several side streets along North Main Street, particularly East Parkway Drive and East Hawthorne Boulevard, will be temporarily closed for staging parade entrants.

During these events, these streets will be adequately staffed with uniformed Police Officers to assist and direct traffic. The City asks that residents, citizens, and motorists cooperate in not moving the barricades to ensure the safety of everyone.

Motorists may experience temporary traffic delays and may choose to alter their travel route to avoid these areas.

For more information about these events, see the Wheaton Park District's website.
