[ARCHIVED] Wheaton City Manager Appoints New Chief of Police

Wheaton City Manager Mike Dzugan announced today that he is appointing Deputy Chief William (Bill) Murphy to the position of Chief of Police, following Chief Jim Volpe's retirement. 

Currently serving as Deputy Chief of Police of Support, Murphy has been a member of the Wheaton Police Department since 1990. Over the last 28 years, he has served as Patrol Officer, Field Training Officer, Detective, Officer-in-Charge, Sergeant, and Lieutenant.

"Deputy Chief Murphy's vast experience and commitment to the City of Wheaton will allow him to efficiently and effectively lead the department while continuing to keep our community one of the safest in the nation" said Dzugan.

Deputy Chief Murphy has a Bachelor of Science (Criminal Justice Management) from Aurora University and a Master's Degree in Public Safety Administration from Lewis University.

Murphy will be sworn-in as the City of Wheaton's 12th Police Chief during the Council Meeting on Monday, July 2 at 7 p.m.
