Downtown Parking Changes in Effect July 1

Crews have completed installing timed parking signs throughout the downtown in customer parking areas, and a new program to expand downtown employee parking begins July 1. These changes to downtown parking are designed to meet the needs of both customers and employees by keeping parking spaces closest to downtown businesses available for customers, while providing additional parking options for downtown employees.

What’s New?

  • Customer Parking: A 3-hour time limit is now in effect for all areas designated “customer parking,” effective Monday through Friday, 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. Please note these time limits do not apply after 6 p.m. weekdays, any time on weekends, or on holidays. You will now see 3-hour customer parking signs installed in the central part of downtown, with 4-hour parking signs installed near the perimeter of downtown.
  • Employee Parking: In conjunction with timed customer parking, the City is implementing the new Blue Dot Parking Program July 1 to increase available parking options for downtown employees. This program allows employees with Blue Dot parking permits to park beyond posted time limits in any areas with Blue Dot signs.
  • Wheaton Place Garage, Fourth Floor: The top floor of the Wheaton Place Garage is all daily fee parking, weekdays from 6 a.m. to 3 p.m., payable through the Passport app. After 3 p.m. weekdays and all day Saturday and Sunday, these spaces are free and available to customers.

For more information and maps of available parking areas, visit the Downtown Parking section of the City’s website.

City of Wheaton Fireworks Ordinance Reminder

With the Fourth of July holiday just around the corner, this is a reminder that setting off/lighting or selling fireworks violates City Ordinance (unless special criteria outlined by state law apply and the proper permitting is obtained through the City). Leave the fireworks to the professionals; attend local fireworks displays to prevent injuries by recreational fireworks.

Wheaton Police Neighborhood Roll Call Events Continue in July

The Wheaton Police Department’s Neighborhood Roll Call events will continue throughout the summer. In partnership with Community Unit School District (CUSD) 200, Neighborhood Roll Calls have a special focus on how CUSD 200 and the Wheaton Police Department are working together to keep Wheaton’s school communities safe.

Topics discussed include CUSD 200's approach to school safety; A.L.I.C.E. (Alert, Lockdown, Inform, Counter and Evacuate) Training; D.A.R.E. (Drug Abuse Resistance Education); school resource officers; and local traffic concerns.

While each event (excluding the July 1 Roll Call) is held at an individual school, they are organized to include other nearby schools. Residents are encouraged to attend the event associated with their school to meet the officers and school leaders who serve their area. These events are open to everyone in the community, and there will be activities for children, so bring the whole family.

A MESSAGE FROM MAYOR SUESS: July in Wheaton: Honoring Heroes, Celebrating Together

There’s something truly special about July in Wheaton. It’s a time when our community comes together to celebrate and enjoy summer traditions that make this season so memorable.

This month is filled with patriotic events everyone in our community can enjoy — starting with the Wheaton Field of Honor at Seven Gables Park, 1750 S. Naperville Road. Now through July 4, 2,000 American flags are in perfectly straight rows, honoring military members, veterans, first responders, and other heroes who serve and protect our nation. This moving display, hosted by the Wheaton Park District, also features nightly patriotic performances. For more information, visit the Wheaton Park District’s website.

On Wednesday, July 2 at 7:30 p.m., the community is invited to attend the Wheaton Municipal Band’s “Red, White and KaBOOM” concert at Memorial Park, 225 Karlskoga Avenue. This annual patriotic concert will have many audience favorites.

Then, join the Wheaton Park District for this year’s Independence Day events:

  • Fireworks & Festivities, Thursday, July 3: Enjoy food vendors, music, games, giveaways, and inflatables on July 3 at Graf Park, 1855 Manchester Road, starting at 5:30 p.m. A new fireworks and drone show will take place at dusk, at approximately 9 p.m.
  • Fourth of July Parade, Friday, July 4: Celebrate Independence Day by taking in the festive atmosphere of the Wheaton Park District’s Fourth of July Parade. Held on Friday, July 4, beginning at 10 a.m., this annual tradition features a variety of decorated floats, music, and community groups. The parade route will begin at Main Street and Hawthorne Boulevard, traveling south on Main Street, then turning west (right) onto Union Avenue, continuing south (left) on Wheaton Avenue, turning east (left) on Front Street, and concluding at Cross Street.

And don’t miss a special performance by Gary Sinise and the Lt. Dan Band on Saturday, July 12 at 7 p.m. as they take the stage at Cantigny’s Parade Field, 1 S 151 Winfield Road. This rare public concert will honor our local veterans and supports the West Suburban Foundation for Disabled Veterans (WSFDV)’s mission to provide housing and support for disabled veterans and their families. For more information and tickets, visit Cantigny’s website.

Whether you're with family, friends, or neighbors, I hope you’ll join in the celebrations happening all around Wheaton this July.
