Join 'Family Slow Ride' through Seven Gables on June 28

Wheaton’s Bicyclist and Pedestrian Commission encourages families to join them for a slow bike ride through Wheaton Park District’s Seven Gables Park at 9:30 a.m. Saturday, June 28 to ride and watch the Field of Honor American flag display being set up. This ride is open to cyclists of all levels and ages – grandkids to grandparents and everyone in between – and will begin and end at the Seven Gables playground/picnic shelter. Seven Gables Park (1750 S. Naperville Road) is accessible from Winners Cup Circle and Thompson Drive. 

Participation requirements:

  • All riders younger than 18 years old must be accompanied by an adult.
  • All riders must provide their own bicycle and wear a bike helmet. 
  • Participants must also sign a digital waiver prior to participation. 
American Flags

Field of Honor Display Begins on June 28

The Wheaton Field of Honor, hosted by the Wheaton Park District, has become a patriotic tradition each year where 2,000 American flags are displayed in perfectly straight rows in Seven Gables Park, honoring soldiers, veterans, first responders and other heroes who serve and protect our nation. The Field of Honor will be displayed June 28-July 4 and includes nightly patriotic performances. For more information, visit the Wheaton Park District’s website.

Mosquito Spraying Planned for June 26

The Wheaton Mosquito Abatement District has notified the City of Wheaton that, weather permitting, its crews will spray for mosquitoes on Thursday, June 26. Applications are typically made from dusk until 2 a.m.

To be notified by phone when future mosquito spraying will take place, call 1-800-942-2555.

This will be the Wheaton Mosquito Abatement District’s first district-wide application for this season.

The Wheaton Mosquito Abatement District is a separate entity from the City of Wheaton. The District covers 23 square miles and includes most of Wheaton as well as sections of Carol Stream, Glendale Heights and unincorporated Milton Township. Questions and comments about the District’s integrated mosquito management program should be directed to its service contractor, Clarke (www.clarke.com). Their mosquito hotline number is 1-800-942-2555.

Next Neighborhood Roll Call Event: July 1

The Wheaton Police Department is once again hosting its popular Neighborhood Roll Call events throughout the summer. The next Neighborhood Roll Call will take place Tuesday, July 1, 6:30 p.m., at Hull Park, 1400 Hull Drive. 

Officers will discuss what’s happening in the neighborhood, talk about crime trends, and present safety demonstrations, followed by an opportunity for attendees to ask questions. In addition, officers will provide fun activities for children.

The events are open to everyone in the community, and residents are encouraged to bring lawn chairs and their neighbors, too. Visit www.wheaton.il.us/RollCall to view a map of events, dates, and find the Roll Call closest to you.

Celebrate Independence Day in Wheaton

The Wheaton Park District will be hosting Independence Day festivities on July 3 and July 4, 2025. The City of Wheaton encourages everyone in the community to take part in the celebrations. 

Festivities & Fireworks, Thursday, July 3

Enjoy food vendors, music, games, giveaways, and inflatables on July 3 at Graf Park, 1855 Manchester Road, starting at 5:30 p.m. A new fireworks and drone show will take place at dusk, at approximately 9 p.m. 

During this time, motorists can expect traffic delays on:

  • North County Farm Road, between West Roosevelt Road and Geneva Road
  • Manchester Road, between East Street (Winfield) and North Gables Boulevard
  • Surrounding neighborhood side streets near the DuPage County Fairgrounds

Please note that some areas near Graf Park and the DuPage County Fairgrounds will be marked "Temporary No Parking," which will be enforced starting at 3 p.m. on July 3. 

The DuPage County Fairground parking lot will only be accessible from County Farm Road. Handicap parking access will be available in the Graf Park playground parking lot off Manchester Road. Please use extra caution for pedestrians who are going to and from this event and follow parking regulations and posted signs.

There will also be no parking signs posted on the following streets on July 3:

  • Union Avenue, between Wheaton Avenue and Main Street
  • Wheaton Avenue, between Union Avenue and Front Street
  • Front Street, between Wheaton Avenue and Cross Street

Residents, citizens, and motorists are being asked for their cooperation and compliance in not parking in these designated areas from July 3 at 9 p.m. to July 4 at noon.

Fourth of July Parade, Friday, July 4

The Wheaton Park District’s Fourth of July Parade will be held on July 4, beginning at 10 a.m. The parade route will begin at Main Street and Hawthorne Boulevard, traveling south on Main Street, then turning west (right) onto Union Avenue, continuing south (left) on Wheaton Avenue, turning east (left) on Front Street, and concluding at Cross Street.

Roads temporarily closed from approximately 9 a.m. to noon include:

  • Main Street, between Cole Avenue and Liberty Drive
  • Wesley Street, between Washington Street and Main Street
  • Union Avenue, between Main Street and West Street
  • Harrison Avenue, between Wheaton Avenue and Cross Street
  • Hale Street, between Karlskoga Avenue and Union Avenue
  • Wheaton Avenue, between Franklin Street and Front Street
  • Seminary Avenue, between West Street and Scott Street
  • Wesley Avenue, between West Street and Hale Street

We appreciate your help in keeping the parade moving and everyone safe by staying out of the street during the parade. Signs will be posted throughout the parade route reminding you to stay at or behind the curb. 

These streets will be staffed with uniformed police officers and personnel to assist and direct traffic during this time. Residents, citizens, and motorists are being asked for their cooperation in not moving the barricades to ensure participants' safety. Motorists may experience temporary traffic delays and choose to alter their travel routes to avoid these areas.

How to Apply for a Block Party Permit in Wheaton

If you’re planning to bring your street together for games, food, and community, residents must submit a Block Party Application to receive a permit from the Public Works Department. There is no fee for this permit.

How to Apply:

  1. The applicant must notify all residents living on the block in writing of the date and time of the party.
  2. As part of the application, the applicant must submit a sheet containing the signatures of at least 60% of the residents within the blocked area.
  3. Complete the online Block Party Application and upload the signatures (file/image) or drop it off at the City of Wheaton Public Works Department office.
    • Note: Please fill out a Block Party Application at least three weeks before the date of the block party.

Blue Dot Placard

Blue Dot Parking Program Begins July 1

Starting July 1, 2025, downtown employees who have a Blue Dot parking permit displayed in their vehicle can park beyond posted time limits in any Blue Dot zone. These zones are street segments where the parking signs have a blue dot.

Employers can purchase Blue Dot permits for their employees on an annual basis at a cost of $50 per Blue Dot permit. These permits can be shared among employees of the same business. Simply display the Blue Dot Permit hangtag in your rearview mirror and park in any Blue Dot zone.

Family Fun Tent: Foam Party on Saturday

Join the Downtown Wheaton Association on Saturday, June 28, 10:30-11:15 a.m., for a high energy foam party, suited for the whole family. The event will take place at the "W" Tent, located on Front Street just west of Main Street. Consider bringing goggles or sunglasses for the foam, and a towel for the car ride home.
