Electronic, Scrap Metal, Textile & More Recycling Event this Saturday, Feb. 8Wheaton residents can recycle a wide variety of items at the City’s monthly Electronic, Scrap Metal, Textile & More Recycling Events. The next collection will be held on Saturday, Feb. 8, 9 a.m. to noon, at the Public Works Storage Yard, 820 W. Liberty Drive. Accepted items include tollway transponders, clothing and shoes, scrap metal, cooking oil, fluorescent tube lights (no CFL bulbs), various electronics, and more. City Council Approves Building Code UpdatesAt this week's City Council Meeting, the Wheaton City Council approved the transition of the City’s building codes from the 2018 International Code Council (ICC) model code and 2017 National Electrical Code (NEC) to the 2024 ICC model code and 2023 NEC. The new codes will be effective starting March 1, 2025. You can read more about the changes on the City’s website.

City Council Approves Roosevelt Road Zoning OrdinanceAt this week's City Council Meeting, the Council passed the ordinances to implement the Roosevelt Road Corridor Plan into the City’s Zoning Ordinance. This multi-year City project represents an extensive process that included the input of the community, City Council and City staff to create a guide for future development along Roosevelt Road in a way that is responsive to existing conditions and emerging trends and best suited for the different segments of Roosevelt Road, while respecting adjacent neighborhoods.

Save the Date for Native Plant Sale on April 26Wheaton has an opportunity to “grow native” with the return of the Native Plant Sale from 8:30-11 a.m. Saturday, April 26 at the City’s Public Works Storage Yard, 820 W. Liberty Drive. This event, hosted in partnership with the City’s Environmental Improvement Commission, the City of Wheaton, and the Wheaton Park District, encourages residents to plant native species in future landscape projects.

City of Wheaton Offers Drainage Reviews at No ChargeThe City of Wheaton would like to make you aware of a free service that is available to residents. A Drainage Review is a comprehensive evaluation of everything that has to do with drainage on your property performed personally by the City’s Stormwater Engineer, at no charge. Whether your property has had a flooding problem, or you’d like information on how to prevent flooding, a Drainage Review is a very good way to start. DuPage County Announces Small Nonprofit Grant ProgramDuPage County recently announced its Small Agency Grant Program, which will provide grants to smaller nonprofit agencies.
