Share Your Feedback on Proposed Changes to Building Codes

The City of Wheaton is proposing to update current building codes to the 2024 ICC Codes and 2023 National Electrical Code. With technology in both the electrical and building construction industry changing at a rapid pace, it is essential that the City of Wheaton keep codes updated to ensure that we provide an optimal level of protection and services for our residents. The City is seeking public input about the proposed changes. You can check out the City's website to review the proposed changes and submit your feedback. The City Council will have a first reading of the proposed changes at their Jan. 21 meeting and take formal action at their Feb. 3 meeting.

ComEd to Perform Tree Trimming in Select Areas

Within the next three months, ComEd will trim trees, branches, and vines that interfere or have the potential to interfere with power lines. This work helps prevent safety hazards and power outages.

The work is generally located along Wiesbrook Road from Butterfield Road to Leabrook Lane. Residents who are in affected areas will receive a notice from ComEd regarding this work. You can also view a map of impacted areas in Wheaton by visiting the City's website.

In some cases, tree removal may be required. The remaining tree stumps are treated with an approved herbicide to prevent future regrowth. Herbicide will be applied by state-licensed applicators. All work is performed by trained, qualified arborists. For more information, visit ComEd.com/Trees or call 1-800-Edison-1 (1-800-334-7661).

Water Rate Changes Begin with January Bill

The Wheaton City Council has approved changes to the City’s water rates to address aging water infrastructure, significant increases in the amount the City pays to purchase water, and rising expenses to operate the City’s water system.

These changes implement the recommendations of the Wheaton Water Rate Study, which includes the first adjustments to the City’s water rates in 9 years, and annual adjustments to the rate that directly reflect how much the City pays to purchase water from the DuPage Water Commission. These changes will begin with water customers’ January 2025 utility bill.

The impact on a customer’s monthly water bill will vary based on their water meter size and consumption levels, however the average water customer is expected to see a monthly increase of approximately $6.82 in 2025. More information is available on the City’s website.
