Cadillac & Wakeman Flood Improvements Project Slated to Begin this Week

As part of the City's continued commitment to improving infrastructure in our community, contracted crews will begin work this week to reduce flooding in a portion of northeast Wheaton known as the Cadillac Wakeman Flood Improvement Project. This project will install more than 2,000 feet of new storm sewer, replace underground pipe that is more than 70 years old and complete related work on portions of Cole Avenue, Washington Street, Ranch Road, Driving Park Road and Parkway Drive. Residents who will be directly affected by this work have received further information from the City. You can see a map of this project and find out more on the City's website.

Wheaton Police Department Taking Polar Plunge

The Wheaton Police Department’s Team Frosted Donuts is back for the 2024 Polar Plunge. Last year, the team raised over $14,700 for Special Olympics Illinois athletes with the support of the Wheaton community.

This event is part of the Law Enforcement Torch Run Polar Plunge for Special Olympics Illinois, which supports more than 21,000 athletes with intellectual disabilities and 9,000 Young Athletes across the state. If you’d like to learn more about the team or lend your support, you can visit the team’s website.

Reminder on Campaign Signs

As we are in the spring election season, the City reminds residents and businesses of Wheaton’s restrictions on where you can and can't place campaign signs. These requirements are part of the City’s Zoning Ordinance to help ensure the safety of drivers and pedestrians by maintaining clear sight lines and discouraging distractions to drivers.

Requirements for campaign signs:

  • Size: Campaign signs must be no more than 16 square feet in residential districts or 32 square feet in non-residential districts.
  • Location: Signs must be on private property. They must not be in the parkway (generally the area between the sidewalk and the street) or on any other public property. Signs can’t be attached to a tree or utility pole, regardless of whether it is on public or private property.

You can read the City’s ordinance related to signs. To report signs that are not meeting these requirements, you can use the City’s Service Request Form.

Slam the Scam Day Logo

Avoid Government Imposter Scams; National Slam the Scam Day Takes Place on March 7

The Social Security Administration (SSA) and the Office of the Inspector General are partnering with other government agencies for the 5th Annual Slam the Scam Day on March 7, which raises public awareness of government imposter scams. Recognizing the signs of a scam gives you the power to ignore criminals and report the scam.

The top four basic signs of a scam include:

  1. Scammers pretend to be from an agency or organization you know to gain your trust.
  2. Scammers say there is a problem or a prize.
  3. Scammers pressure you to act immediately.
  4. Scammers tell you to pay in a specific way.

For more information on #SlamTheScam Day and helpful tips, visit the SSA's website.

Daylight Saving Time Begins on Sunday, March 10

Daylight Saving Time begins at 2 a.m. Sunday, March 10. When you change your clocks, the Wheaton Fire Department also encourages you to check your smoke detectors and carbon monoxide detectors. If they have replaceable batteries, you should replace batteries about every 6 months to help ensure they operate correctly, and using Daylight Saving Time is an easy way to remember when you last replaced the batteries.
