Two Wheaton Officers Receive Police Department's Life-Saving Award

Wheaton Police Officers Mike Sterkowicz and Ben Belcaster recently received the Police Department's Life-Saving Award, presented by the very resident whose life they saved.

On Dec. 12, 2025, Officer Sterkowicz and Officer Belcaster responded to an individual experiencing a cardiac event. The officers immediately began CPR and deployed an automated external defibrillator (AED), which all Wheaton Police Department patrol vehicles carry and officers are trained to use. The resident, Tom Wesche, was transported to the hospital, where he eventually made a full recovery.

On Feb. 3, Mr. Wesche and his wife, Mary Pat, participated in the award ceremony to present this award to Officers Sterkowicz and Belcaster. This marks the second Life-Saving Award for both officers.

2025 Holiday Light Recycling Program Collection Results

The community made the City’s 2025 Holiday Light Recycling Program a success by recycling 3,294 pounds of old and unwanted holiday light strings. The drop-off site at the Public Works Storage Facility provided a convenient way to help keep these materials out of landfills. Thank you to everyone who participated and supported recycling in Wheaton.
