recyclable items

Recycle Clothing, Electronics, and More at the City's Monthly Recycling Event on Saturday

Recycle a wide variety of items at the City’s monthly Electronic, Scrap Metal, Textile & More Recycling Events. The next collection will be held on Saturday, Dec. 13, from 9 a.m. to noon at the Public Works Storage Yard, 820 W. Liberty Drive.

In addition to electronics, scrap metal, and more, this event also accepts textiles. Textiles include items such as clothing, shoes, and bedding — even those that are too worn for donation. Recycling these items helps keep materials out of landfills and supports keeping Wheaton green.

Note that there is a charge for all TVs and monitors. For a full list of accepted items and event details, visit the City’s website.

Snow Plow

Snow Operations in the City of Wheaton: How it Works

When the snow starts to fall or icing conditions are present, the Public Works Department begins salting the City streets. The Department begins a plowing operation after an accumulation of two inches. After the plowing is complete, salt is reapplied to reduce icing conditions.

Snow removal is performed in order of priority areas:

  • Priority 1: Main thoroughfares, high volume areas and potentially dangerous areas such as railroad crossings, school zones, curves, bridges, and intersections.
  • Priority 2: Secondary and residential streets.
  • Priority 3: Cul-de-sacs and dead-ends will be the last areas plowed since pickup trucks rather than large snow plows must be used.

For more information about snow removal, visit the City's website.

Next Step in the 2026 City Budget Process

The next step in the process is for the City Council to consider adoption of the 2026 City Budget at its meeting on Monday, Dec. 15, at 7 p.m. in the Council Chambers at City Hall, 303 W. Wesley St. The meeting is open to the public and will be recorded.
