Siren

New Tornado Siren System in Wheaton

DuPage County recently upgraded our area’s tornado siren system with automated technology for faster activation. With this new system, outdoor warning sirens will be activated automatically based on National Weather Service warnings, meaning you may hear sirens even before you receive an alert on your phone. When you hear sirens, take shelter immediately!

IMPORTANT TO KNOW:

  • Outdoor tornado sirens are intended to alert people who are OUTDOORS that dangerous weather is approaching and they need to seek shelter immediately. You should have other ways to receive severe weather notifications when you are indoors, such as a TV, weather radio or smartphone.
  • There is NO “all-clear” siren. If you hear a siren that is activated more than one time, you should treat each time it goes off as a new warning and remain sheltered.

For more information about outdoor warning sirens in DuPage County, please visit www.ducomm.org.
