Prepare for Possible Extreme Cold & Snow as Winter ArrivesThe National Weather Service issued a special weather statement for our area starting today, predicting snow showers with low visibility and wind chills as low as -10 to -20 degrees. Use caution if you are traveling during these anticipated bursts of snow. In extreme temperatures, the Wheaton Public Library, 225 N. Cross St., serves as a warming site during its open hours, and you can view a list of other warming locations throughout DuPage County. Residents may want to take steps to prevent pipes from freezing, such as disconnecting garden hoses, keeping garage doors closed if your water meter is in that area, and opening cabinet doors under sinks to allow heat to get to pipes. Find more cold weather preparedness information to use throughout the winter season at www.wheaton.il.us/cold.
