Wheaton Police Chief to Retire Sept. 25Wheaton City Manager Mike Dzugan announced that Police Chief Bill Murphy will retire on Sept. 25, 2023, concluding his 33-year career with the Wheaton Police Department. Chief Murphy began serving the community as a patrol officer with the Wheaton Police Department in 1990. He ascended to become a field training officer, then detective, officer-in-charge, sergeant, lieutenant and deputy chief before becoming Wheaton’s 12th police chief in 2018. The community is encouraged to attend the Sept. 18 City Council meeting which will honor the outgoing Chief. For more information, visit the City's website.

Commission Seeks Student Artists to Create Program CoverThe Wheaton Community Relations Commission invites local students to submit their original artwork to be showcased at the 2023 Festival of Cultures, which takes place on Sept. 17. The Commission will select one entry as the cover art of the Festival of Cultures program. The selected student artist will receive a $50 Visa gift card. Submission requirements: - The deadline for submissions is Sept. 1
- Submissions may be as large as 8x11, but will be sized to fit a 4x6 booklet
- Submissions should be vertically oriented (as opposed to landscape or horizontal designs)
- Artwork should be designed to be reproduced using standard color printing
- Please include the student’s name, year in school, and school name with submissions
- Submissions can be scanned and emailed to FOCWheatonArtContest@gmail.com
The winner will be announced by social media and their school will be contacted by Sept. 6.

Wheaton Police Remind You to Buckle Up and Practice Child Car Seat Safety During Traffic Safety Campaign Aug. 20-26To help ensure the safety of everyone in our community, during the week of Aug. 20-26 the Wheaton Police Department and the Traffic Unit will be conducting a traffic safety campaign Seatbelts: One of the smartest choices passengers and drivers can make is buckling up. Seatbelts reduce the risk of serious injury or death in a crash. Being buckled up helps keep you safe and secure inside your vehicle. Child Car Seat Safety: When it comes to selecting the right car seat for your child, one size does not fit all. It’s important to follow these safety tips when it comes to your child’s car seat: - Make sure to get the right car seat for your child’s age, weight, and height
- Register your seat right away so you can be notified if there’s a safety recall
- Read the instructions for both your vehicle and your car seat
- Assistance from certified child safety seat technicians is available from the Wheaton Police Department by calling 630-260-2161

Shakespeare in the Park Returns Aug. 24-26The Wheaton Park District's Shakespeare in the Park returns Aug. 24-26 at Memorial Park (225 Karlskoga Ave) with the puppet show beginning at 6:45 p.m. followed by the main performance at 7 p.m. A community favorite, Shakespeare in the Park is a high-quality annual theater event presented free of charge to the public by the Wheaton Park District and Wheaton College’s Arena Theater. Andy Warhol seems to epitomize a superficial pursuit of fame and commercialization of art. However, Warhol maintained a personal Byzantine Catholic faith, and his work displayed deeply religious themes. Dr. David McNutt, Associate Lecturer of Core Studies at Wheaton College, explores the religious dimensions of Warhol's life and art. Registration required.
