Shared Cost Parkway Tree Planting Program

With the start of a new year comes a new opportunity for you to add a parkway tree in front of your property. The Forestry Division is now accepting applications for the 2023 Shared Cost Parkway Tree Planting Program. As we continue seeking ways to encourage sustainable actions in our community, this year’s program has been significantly expanded to provide shared-cost funding for up to 200 new trees on a first-come, first-served basis. Open now through March 1, this program allows property owners to pay $95 per tree to have City crews plant a new tree in the parkway adjacent to their property. Property owners can select from up to 12 species. See the City's website for the application and more information.

Sidewalk

City Installing 7.5 Miles of New Sidewalks in 2023 to Improve Safety and Accessibility

This year, the City is preparing to add approximately 7.5 miles of sidewalks in areas where there are currently no sidewalks to make our neighborhoods safer and more accessible for all. The City’s New Sidewalk Program will complete the work the City was unable to finish in 2022 due to a materials shortage and workers’ strike, and the program will continue the City’s comprehensive plan to create a complete network with a sidewalk on at least one side of every neighborhood street.

The program will progress in three phases: spring, summer and fall. The spring program will consist of those areas postponed from the fall. Before construction begins, the City will send notices informing these residents of the estimated construction schedule. For the summer program, residents in these areas will see surveyors contracted by the City marking and measuring for the placement of new sidewalks in their neighborhoods in the next several weeks as they prepare to design engineering plans. These residents also are receiving a notice in the mail. The street segments for the fall program are being finalized by staff. More information, including the streets affected by the spring and summer programs, is available on the City's website at www.wheaton.il.us/newsidewalks.
