Fire Chief Schultz

Wheaton Fire Chief Retiring After 19 Years of Service

The City of Wheaton would like to express its appreciation for longtime Fire Chief William Schultz who will be retiring from the City on July 1. Schultz was hired in 2003 as a Battalion Chief where he was then promoted to Deputy Fire Chief, then Fire Chief in 2013. He also assumed additional responsibilities as Director of Building & Code Enforcement in 2019. Schultz has a Bachelor of Science Degree in Fire Science Management from Southern Illinois University and a Master’s Degree in Public Administration from Governors State University. Before coming to Wheaton, Schultz served the public as a firefighter for the Country Club Hills Fire Protection District and as a firefighter/paramedic with the Hazel Crest Department of Fire, Rescue, and Inspectional Services where he was later promoted to Lieutenant/Paramedic and served as Inspectional Service Coordinator. The City offers its congratulations and appreciation for Schultz’s 34 years of total service.

Library Hosts Meeting & Cooking Demo

Make some new friends on Thursday, May 12 at 7 p.m. at the Friends of Wheaton Public Library Annual Meeting. After a brief business meeting, Chef Susan Maddox will create sauces and vinaigrettes to be paired with spring vegetables and salads. Registration is required on the Library’s Website.

Bike Rodeo

Bike Rodeo Promotes Safety on Wheels

The Wheaton Bicycle Advisory Commission and Wheaton Police Department encourage children age 13 and younger to attend a free Bicycle Safety Rodeo on Saturday, May 14, from 10 a.m. to noon in the Wheaton City Hall parking lot. Located at 303 W. Wesley St., this event includes stations where young bicyclists will learn various bicycle safety techniques and maneuvers, and it will include giveaways at the end. Children must be accompanied by an adult guardian/parent, bring a working bicycle, and wear a helmet. Please register for the event by filling out this online waiver so the commission can better plan for the number of attendees.

French market

Enjoy the French Market as the Weather Gets Warmer

The Wheaton French Market is open every Saturday at its temporary location on Liberty between Cross and Reber and on Reber between Liberty and Willow, in front of the old DuPage County Courthouse.  Enjoy fresh produce, flowers, handcrafted goods, jewelry and much more from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. each Saturday through October. Vendors often change throughout the season, so visitors will find different items each week. As a reminder to all patrons, dogs are not allowed within the market area.

Cantigny Parking Free in Celebration of Preservation Month 

Cantigny Park is celebrating Preservation Month by offering free parking for Wheaton residents starting on Saturday, May 14 through May 20.  Wheaton residents can show proof of residency at the parking booth for admittance. A valid driver’s license is preferred.

Electronic Recycling on Saturday

Wheaton residents can bring unwanted electronics to the monthly recycling collection on Saturday May 14 from 9 a.m. to 12 p.m. at 820 W Liberty Drive. This is a drive-through event with volunteers unloading items from your car therefore, all items must be placed in the trunk prior to entering the line. While the event is free, there is a charge for all TVs and monitors. For a list of what is accepted during this recycling event, please visit the City of Wheaton’s website.

Great Fires of Wheaton Lecture Taking Place Tuesday

Join the Historic Commission and the Wheaton Public Library on Tuesday, May 17, at 7 p.m., as they host The Great Fires of Wheaton. Historian Bob Goldsborough will discuss 145 years’ worth of fires in Wheaton. Fire Chief Bill Schultz will also be in attendance to provide additional information and answer any questions. Smoke detectors will be raffled off to attendees during the event, which is free to the public, but registration is required on the Wheaton Library Website
