Library Book Sale Begins Today
More than 20,000 books will be for sale at the Friends of the Library Annual Book Sale Aug. 21-25 at the Wheaton Public Library, 225 N Cross Street. Fiction for every reading taste, nonfiction on every popular topic, paperbacks and hardbacks will all be available at bargain prices. A separate area of the sale features children’s books. All proceeds benefit library programs. The sale is open:
- 9 a.m.-9 p.m. Wednesday, Aug. 21 and Thursday, Aug. 22
- 9 a.m.-5 p.m. Friday, Aug. 23 and Saturday, Aug. 24.

Commission Accepting Applications for Senior Housing Assistance Program
The City of Wheaton and the City’s Housing Commission sponsor a program to give monthly financial assistance toward housing to senior residents who qualify. Seniors who meet the three following requirements may apply for Wheaton Housing Assistance:
- Age: must be at least 65 years or older
- Residency: must be an incorporated Wheaton resident for at least the last consecutive 3 years
- Income: senior’s annual household income cannot exceed $26,850

Catch the Final Vintage Rides of the Season

Police Taking Part in Saturation Saturday
On Aug. 24, the Wheaton Police Department will be participating in Saturation Saturday enforcement with a focus on drunk driving and drug & alcohol-related traffic offenses. The Wheaton Police Department will join state, county, and local law enforcement agencies across the state for increased enforcement during the evening and late-night hours. Mothers Against Drunk Driving (MADD) Illinois spearheads these statewide efforts to raise awareness on the dangers of drunk and drugged driving, and increase enforcement to remove and arrest individuals driving under the influence.
Metra Changing Some Schedules Starting Sept. 3
Metra will be adjusting schedules on some of its lines starting Sept. 3, including the Union Pacific West line, which makes two stops in Wheaton. The schedules of some off-peak trains are being adjusted to accommodate the federally mandated Positive Train Control safety system. To see these changes, visit www.metrarail.com.
