A red STOP sign with an “ALL WAY” plaque stands at the intersection of Washington Street and Harrison Avenue, with red safety flags attached to the signpost. Residential houses and leafless trees are visible in the background.

Harrison Avenue & Washington Street Intersection Now a Four-Way Stop

As of Feb. 3, the intersection of Harrison Avenue and Washington Street is now a four-way stop, with new stop signs added on Harrison Avenue to improve safety. Due to an increase in traffic crashes, this intersection meets the criteria for an all-way stop, and the City has implemented this interim change to enhance safety for drivers and pedestrians while a full traffic study is conducted.

We appreciate the community's participation in this process. We will share the traffic study results and any recommendations once the analysis is complete.

Save the Date: Native Plant Sale to Take Place on April 25

Wheaton has an opportunity to “grow native” with the return of the Native Plant Sale on Saturday, April 25, 8:30-11 a.m., at the City’s Public Works Storage Yard, 820 W. Liberty Drive.

This event, hosted in partnership with the City’s Environmental Improvement Commission, City of Wheaton, and Wheaton Park District, encourages residents to plant native species in future landscape projects. The list of plants available at the Native Plant Sale is now available to preview.

In addition to native plants, residents can pre-order rain barrels and composters for pick up at the sale. Mail-in orders are due April 17, and online orders are due April 19. See more information or order through the Conservation Foundation.

Please note that cash payments will not be accepted at the sale; purchases must be made by credit card or check.

The next Coffee with Council will take place at 10 a.m. on Saturday, Feb. 7, in the Gamon Room at City Hall, 303 W.
