Change Your Clocks, Check Your Smoke AlarmsClocks will “fall back” one hour on Sunday, Nov. 2, marking the end of Daylight Saving Time for the year. As you change your clocks, the Wheaton Fire Department reminds residents to also check the expiration dates and functionality of their smoke and carbon monoxide alarms. Per Illinois’ Smoke Detector Act, any new smoke alarm installed in a single- or multi-family home must have a sealed 10-year battery. Existing smoke alarms installed before Jan. 1, 2023 may remain in place until they are more than 10 years old, fail an operability test, or malfunction. Taking a few minutes this weekend to check your alarms helps keep you and your family safe all year long.
