Wheaton Municipal Band to Host Concert on Saturday with Special Guest ConductorThe Wheaton Municipal Band will present a special concert on Saturday, July 26, 7:30 p.m., at Wheaton College's Edman Chapel, 401 E. Franklin St. The event is free and open to the public. This concert will feature a unique guest appearance by Colonel Arnald D. Gabriel, former conductor of the United States Air Force Band (1964-1985), who will conduct the band virtually from his home in Alexandria, Virginia. Colonel Gabriel will conduct two patriotic selections: "America, the Beautiful" and "Stars and Stripes Forever." This performance will be a historic first for both the Wheaton Municipal Band and its audience — with the band being led remotely by a conductor who will also be visible to the audience throughout the experience. Colonel Gabriel has conducted the Wheaton Municipal Band on numerous occasions since 1992. More than 25 years ago, he told Wheaton Band Conductor Dr. Bruce Moss that he intended to be conducting on the year of his 100th birthday. So, Dr. Moss invited him to lead the band in 2025 — an invitation that will come to life at this weekend’s concert.
