Wheaton Place Garage

Top Floor of Wheaton Place Garage Changing to All Daily Fee Parking

Starting April 1, 2025, the entire top (4th) floor of the Wheaton Place Parking Garage will become all daily fee parking.

Instead of requiring cash payment using a pay box, the fourth floor will now use the same Passport Parking system as the daily fee options in the City’s commuter lots and near the train station. Payment can be made using the Passport Parking app, available for Apple and Android phones, or by paying directly at https://park.passportparking.com/park. Users will need to enter their license plate number and Zone 62512 into the app or on the website to pay. The parking rate will be $2 per day. For more information, visit the City's website.

Additional Downtown Wheaton Parking Changes

In addition to the Wheaton Place Parking Garage's top floor becoming all daily fee parking, the City is implementing several other downtown parking changes to improve parking availability for customers and downtown employees.

Customer Parking

  • A 3-hour time limit will be going into effect for all areas currently designated “customer parking,” effective Monday through Friday, 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. You will begin to see 3-hour customer parking signs installed in the central part of downtown, with 4-hour parking signs installed near the perimeter of downtown.

Blue Dot Parking Program

  • In conjunction with timed customer parking, the City is rolling out a new program on July 1 to increase available parking options for downtown employees. The Blue Dot Parking Program will allow downtown businesses to purchase Blue Dot permits for their employees, allowing employees with Blue Dot parking permits to park beyond posted time limits in any areas with Blue Dot signs.
  • The City will begin accepting Blue Dot permit applications on May 1, and employees can begin using this program on July 1.

We will continue to provide updates as each phase of these parking changes approaches. For more information, check out this video.

Gary Avenue Intersection

Gary Avenue Closure Now in Effect

Gary Avenue is now closed between Prairie Avenue and Harrison Avenue for the next phase of the Gary Avenue Improvement Project. Crews are reconstructing the roadway; expanding the culvert; adding a turn lane, stoplight and marked crosswalk at Prairie Avenue; and adding a path for pedestrians. You can see the suggested detour map for motorists.

This section of Gary Avenue is expected to be closed until mid-summer, once the south half of the road reconstruction is complete. This project is expected to be completed in late fall, barring unforeseen circumstances.

We will continue to post updates at www.wheaton.il.us/GaryAvenue.
