Mosquito Spraying Planned for TodayThe Wheaton Mosquito Abatement District has notified the City of Wheaton that, weather permitting, its crews will spray for mosquitoes on Wednesday, June 12. Applications are typically made from dusk until 2 a.m. To be notified by phone when future mosquito spraying will take place, call 1-800-942-2555. The Wheaton Mosquito Abatement District is a separate entity from the City of Wheaton. To read more about their mosquito control activities, more information is available on the City's website.

Wheaton Police Neighborhood Roll Call Event to Take Place June 18Join the Wheaton Police Department at the next Neighborhood Roll Call event on Tuesday, June 18, 6:30 p.m., at Seven Gables Park (Thompson Drive entrance), 1750 S. Naperville Road. Officers will talk about what’s happening in the neighborhood, crime trends and police programs, and they will present safety demonstrations. Join Wheaton Police at Cops & Bobbers Fishing Event on June 19Join the Wheaton Police Department and DuPage County Forest Preserve Police for Cops & Bobbers, a community event where kids can fish with the cops! The event will take place on Wednesday, June 19 from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. at Herrick Lake in the DuPage County Forest Preserve. Herrick Lake's main entrance is on Butterfield Road, approximately one mile west of Naperville Road. This event will include free refreshments, and children must be accompanied by an adult. Make Music Wheaton to Take Place June 21The Fine & Cultural Arts Commission is hosting Make Music Wheaton (MMW) on Friday, June 21 from 9 a.m. to 10 p.m. throughout downtown Wheaton. The event is free and open to the public. Make Music Day is a celebration of music around the world on June 21, the longest day of the year. This global event takes place in more than 800 cities across 120 countries. Wheaton is joining the celebration, and the Fine & Cultural Arts Commission encourages musicians of all skill levels, from amateur to professional, to participate in the event. Restaurants, businesses, and community organizations can also participate by offering their locale as a venue. Wheaton Municipal Band and Wheaton Lions Club Collecting Donations for People's Resource CenterDuring each Wheaton Municipal Band concert at Memorial Park this summer, the Wheaton Lions Club will be collecting food donations and other items needed by the People's Resource Center for distribution to anyone in need. Drop off items such as non-perishable food, personal care products, cleaning supplies, and diapers at the Wheaton Lions Club's truck parked on Wheaton Avenue. City Departments Compete in Inaugural Sandbag ChallengeLast week, Wheaton's Public Works, Fire and Police Departments competed in the inaugural Sandbag Challenge. This training exercise helped our staff practice using the City's new sandbagging machines, which help quickly fill sandbags during floods and emergencies. For this challenge, teams of 8 filled 200 sandbags and stacked them to simulate flood-protecting a structure. Check out this video to see which team won!

Wheaton Fire Department Conducts HAZMAT TrainingRecently, the Wheaton Fire Department focused on HAZMAT for its monthly special operations training. This training addressed the various ways firefighters can mitigate hazardous materials when they become a problem, such as creating dams for leaks, uprighting containers safely, putting patches in tanks, using products to absorb liquids and efficiently suppressing/diverting vapor releases. Movies Under the Stars this FridayThe Downtown Wheaton Association invites you to bring your lawn chairs and blankets to the Wheaton Public Library’s West Plaza for a free family-friendly movie showing of The Super Mario Bros. Movie on June 14 at 8 p.m. Space is limited and available on a first-come, first-served basis. There are additional Movies Under the Stars events throughout the summer.
