Reminder: Parking Fee Changes Effective April 1

On April 1, several changes will go into effect for the City’s leased and daily fee parking that will affect commuters, downtown employees, and garage permit holders. The City has not adjusted parking rates in more than 15 years for most types of parking, and these changes are needed to fund the upkeep of City-maintained parking lots, public garages, and street parking.

In summary, the City is introducing premium daily fee parking zones for spaces closest to both train stations, an increase of $0.50 per day for many daily fee parking spaces, and adjustments to leased parking permit fees. Please note that Lot 7 has changed from permit parking to daily fee parking. Lot 7 is located near the College Avenue train station, near the southeast corner of Williston & Crescent.

Visit the City's website for detailed information regarding the parking fee changes.

Be Aware of "Microsoft" Pop-up Message Scam

The Wheaton Police Department has received numerous recent reports from local residents who have received pop-up notifications on their computer purporting to be from Microsoft Corp. These pop-ups commonly claim the victim’s computer has been corrupted in some way and provides a telephone number to contact to resolve the issue. Once on the phone, the scammers use a number of different narratives to entice the caller into transferring funds either through bank wire transfers, Crypto currency transactions, and in rare occasions, face-to-face cash transactions.

These scammers will often utilize a sense of urgency and leave the victim with the false feeling of time not being on their side. Anyone who instructs you to remain on the phone while you complete financial transactions or instructs you to mislead bank staff and your loved ones as to the purpose of the funds being transferred is likely engaged in criminal activity.

Please note: Federal or local law enforcement/government agencies will not contact you via telephone requesting any form of payment. Residents are encouraged not to allow anyone to remotely access their home computer.

Residents can always contact the Wheaton Police Department at 630-260-2161 to confirm the legitimacy of a request for payment or the return of funds.

City of Wheaton Social Services Staff Receive Grant

The City's Social Services staff recently received a grant from Milton Township Community Mental Health Board-708 Board, which allowed the City to purchase case management software that will allow the City's social workers to better assist clients. Pictured here, City Social Worker Rosa Orozco accepted the grant.
