Council Reviewed Traffic Signal Request Near St. Francis High School at Feb. 26 Meeting

At its Feb. 26, 2024, City Council Planning Session, the Council discussed the possibility of installing a traffic signal on Roosevelt Road near St. Francis High School and Target. The City has received requests to install a traffic signal between County Farm Road and Fapp Circle to address vehicle and pedestrian traffic activity. This meeting included an in-depth review of the surrounding intersections and the results of traffic studies performed to determine recommended actions for this area. Roosevelt Road (Route 38) is a state-owned highway under the jurisdiction of the State of Illinois. Any action taken will require the coordination of the State of Illinois, City of Wheaton, and affected property owners. Click here to view the Feb. 26 Planning Session.

Parking Fee Changes Effective April 1

On April 1, several changes go into effect for the City’s leased and daily fee parking that will affect commuters, downtown employees, and garage permit holders. The City has not adjusted parking rates in more than 15 years for most types of parking, and these changes are needed to fund the upkeep of City-maintained parking lots, public garages, and street parking.

The Wheaton City Council discussed these changes at its Jan. 8 Planning Session and approved the changes on Feb. 5.

In summary, the City is introducing premium daily fee parking zones for spaces closest to both train stations, an increase of $0.50 per day for many daily fee parking spaces, and adjustments to leased parking permit fees. Please visit the City's website for detailed information regarding the parking fee changes.
