Crossing Guard Job Openings for Upcoming School Year

Apply to become a City of Wheaton Crossing Guard, which is an excellent opportunity to help the community and earn extra money. Each crossing pays $18.06, which is the equivalent of over $36.00 an hour. This position also offers summers, weekends, and holidays off and is perfect for retirees looking to help with public safety or those looking to supplement their income. Beginning at the end of August for the upcoming school year, this position interacts with residents and community members and is responsible for ensuring the safety of students. Crossings occur just two times a day for approximately 30 minutes while the students are going to and from school. All equipment is provided. Temporary Road Closures for 2023 Independence Day Events

The Wheaton Park District will be hosting the Independence Day Celebration on July 3 and July 4, 2023. The City of Wheaton is proud to help sponsor these community celebrations and encourages the community to take part.

Fireworks: The fireworks display will be on Monday, July 3, at Graf Park, 1855 Manchester Road, at approximately 9 p.m. The evening will also feature small carnival rides, DJ entertainment, giveaways, and more, which will begin at 5:30 p.m. During this time, motorists can expect traffic delays on:

  • North County Farm Road between West Roosevelt Road and Geneva Road
  • Manchester Road between East Street (Winfield) and North Gables Boulevard
  • Surrounding neighborhood side streets near the DuPage County Fairgrounds

Parade: The parade will be held on Tuesday, July 4, beginning at 10 a.m. The parade route will begin at Main Street and Hawthorne Boulevard, traveling south on Main Street, then turning west onto Union Avenue, continuing south on Wheaton Avenue to Front Street, and concluding at Cross Street. Roads temporarily closed from approximately 9 a.m. to noon include:

  • Main Street - between Cole Avenue and Liberty Drive
  • Wesley Street - between Washington Street and Scott Street
  • Harrison Avenue - between Wheaton Avenue and Cross Street
  • Wheaton Avenue - between Franklin Street and Front Street
  • Union Avenue - between West Street and Main Street
  • Seminary Avenue - between West Street and Main Street
  • Wesley Avenue - between Wheaton Avenue and Main Street
  • Front Street - between West Street and Cross Street

Don't miss The First Shot at Gettysburg: History, Reenacting, and Award Presentation on July 1 hosted by the Illinois National Guard, Illinois Military Museum, City of Wheaton Community Relations Commission, City of Wheaton Historic Commission, and the DuPage County Historical Museum. The event will feature reenacting displays in Adams Park, presentations at the Museum, tables with relics and artifacts, and more! Wheaton Park District's Summer Entertainment Concert Series Kicks Off at Memorial Park

The Wheaton Park District presents Summer Entertainment Series concerts on select summer evenings starting at 6 p.m. at Memorial Park. Don't miss the first weekend of concerts with The Neverly Brothers and American English on June 23 and Bostyxx and The PettyBreakers on June 24. DuPage County Animal Services Participating in Free Pet Microchipping Event on June 24

On June 24 from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m., there will be a free pet microchipping event at DuPage County Animal Services (DCAS), 120 N. County Farm Road. During the event all dogs must be on leash, all cats/rabbits must be in carriers, and if your pet uses a muzzle at the vet, please bring it with you. For more information, visit the DCAS website.

Results from Bicycle Survey and Save the Date for Upcoming Group Walks and Rides

Wheaton’s Bicyclist and Pedestrian Commission thanks the 470 people who responded to their recent survey about biking and walking in Wheaton, which will help guide the commission’s work to educate the community on bike safety and improve riding conditions in Wheaton. 

Results from the survey that were especially helpful to the commission included:

  • 24% of survey respondents didn’t know about the pedestrian tunnel at Wheaton Avenue and Roosevelt Road
  • 42% of survey respondents already knew about the new downtown bike shelter
  • Over 50% of participants said you’d be interested in joining the commission on Group Walks

Be sure to save the date for the Famous Women of Wheaton History Ride on Sept. 16 from 2-4 p.m. (the rain date is Sept. 23). For more information, visit the City's website.
