Wheaton Celebrates Downtown Streetscape Project

This past weekend was the celebration of Wheaton's Downtown Streetscape Project and the official grand opening of The French Market. The Wheaton City Council welcomed special guests Congresswoman Delia Ramirez, French Market owner Sebastien Bensidoun and representatives from the French Consul in Chicago. With its beautiful new amenities, wide array of events, Wheaton French Market and wonderful local businesses, downtown Wheaton is the place to be this spring and summer.

Police Exercise Taking Place Today

Do not be alarmed: Officers from the Wheaton Police Department and numerous other local police departments will be conducting training exercises all day today near Wheaton Avenue and Liberty Drive. This event will include SWAT officers practicing emergency response exercises, a variety of law enforcement vehicles and a large police presence in the block of Liberty Drive from Wheaton Avenue to Hale Street. We are sharing this information so that the community is not alarmed to see substantial police activity in this area during this time. As always, if you are experiencing an emergency or need police assistance, please call the Wheaton Police Department at 9-1-1 and officers will respond. Parking is prohibited during the event on Liberty Drive between Wheaton Avenue and Hale Street.

Temporary Closure for Block of Dorchester during Wheaton Sanitary District Work

The Wheaton Sanitary District's contracted crews have temporarily closed Dorchester Street from Childs Street to Lakeside Drive for reconstruction work. This closure is anticipated to last until Friday. For more information, visit the City's website.

Public Art Unveiling Kicks Off Summer of Wheaton Warhol 

The summer of Wheaton Warhol has begun! During a kickoff ceremony this week, the Wheaton Chamber of Commerce, Wheaton Public Library, Downtown Wheaton Association and City of Wheaton revealed four notable faces of Wheaton recreated in the pop art style of Andy Warhol by artist Geoff Bevington. The large mural with the four faces is now on display for the summer overlooking the Library's West Plaza and inside the Library on the second floor. The individuals include Glennette Tilley Turner, Jonathan Blanchard, Marget Hamilton, and Jim Belushi.

Temporary Road Closures for Memorial Day Parade

The 2023 Memorial Day Parade will take place on May 29, beginning at 10 a.m. The parade will begin at Union Avenue and Hale Street, proceeding west on Union, turning south on West Street, and ending at the Wheaton Cemetery. During the parade, the Wheaton Police Department, with the cooperation and assistance of the Milton Township Highway Department, will temporarily modify the traffic pattern on Warrenville Road from Wheaton Cemetery/Merrill and Warrenville Road to Orchard Road from two-way to only one way southbound. 

The following streets will be closed to traffic:

  • Union Avenue, between Hale Street and West Street
  • West Street, between Union Avenue and Warrenville Road
  • Concluding at Wheaton Cemetery (on Warrenville Road)

Register for Wheaton Bike Skills Bonanza at Cream of Wheaton

Bring your children age 12 and younger to the Wheaton Bike Skills Bonanza at Cream of Wheaton on Saturday, June 3, 10-11 a.m. at Wheaton Avenue & Union Avenue. This event will be led by Wheaton's Bicyclist and Pedestrian Commission. Young bicyclists will practice various bicycle safety techniques and maneuvers. Giveaways will be provided at the end!  

Riders need to be accompanied by an adult and wear a helmet. Parents must sign a digital waiver before participation at https://forms.gle/JVT47XNGkjsnqkA48.

Police Department Hosting Neighborhood Safety Events Starting June 6

The Wheaton Police Department will bring back its popular Neighborhood Roll Call events throughout the summer starting June 6. These family friendly outdoor community gatherings are designed to connect residents with the officers who serve them and share current safety information. Each Neighborhood Roll Call will start at 6:30 p.m. with a presentation by the Wheaton Police Department. For more information and a list of upcoming June events, visit the City's website.

City of Wheaton Mental Health Services Available 

The City of Wheaton's Social Workers support our community's mental health needs. Whether it's connecting residents with therapy, psychiatry, or responding to mental health crises with the police and fire departments, help is available. As we observe Mental Health Awareness Month, take a look at how the City can help.

Cream of Wheaton Returns June 1

The Cream of Wheaton will return for another year of fun from Thursday, June 1 through Sunday, June 4, 2023. The weekend will consist of an arts and crafts fair, carnival, business expo, a variety of food vendors, and live entertainment at the bandshell in Memorial Park! City Offices Closed for Memorial Day

In observance of Memorial Day, non-emergency City offices will be closed on Monday, May 29. Garbage, recycling, and yard waste pickup will be delayed by one day.
