Citizens Police Academy Applications Now OpenInterested in learning how your police department works? Apply to be a part of the 2023 Citizens Police Academy, which includes 10 weeks of hands-on practical exercises, classroom instruction and interactive discussions where you will learn the inner workings of Wheaton Police Department operations, practices and objectives. Classes are 6:30-9:30 p.m. Tuesdays, Aug. 29-Nov. 1 (final class is a Wednesday due to Halloween). Applicants must be at least 21 years old and live or work in the City of Wheaton. Celebrate Preservation Month in WheatonIn conjunction with the National Trust for Historic Preservation, Wheaton is joining communities across the nation in honoring our community's history with Historic Preservation Month. The City of Wheaton Historic Commission is offering several events and opportunities to the community this month. Residents will also notice blue signs in front of the more than 200 historic homes and buildings this month. Historic Commission Presents Wheaton’s First Mastodon: The Jayne DiscoveryJoin local history experts Brian and Joyce Ostberg of BeHistoric at the Wheaton Public Library on Tuesday, May 9 at 7 p.m. to learn about the Mastodon discovered in Wheaton in 1869 and its fascinating tie to the Great Chicago Fire. Discovered 100 years before Perry, it uncovers little known facts about Wheaton. Registration is required for this Historic Commission event.

Don't Miss the Taco & Margarita Festival Saturday, May 6Enjoy two 8 oz. margaritas of your choice at your favorite Downtown Wheaton retailers and service providers, and two specialty tacos from participating Downtown Wheaton restaurants. Check-in will begin at 1 p.m. at the "W" Tent on Front Street. An ID must be presented upon check-in, and all age-verified guests will receive two margarita tickets, two taco tickets, a souvenir margarita cup, and a taco tray. City of Wheaton Celebrated Arbor Day at Edison Middle SchoolLast week, the Environmental Improvement Commission led the City's Arbor Day celebration with students from Edison Middle School’s Eco Club. Mayor Suess, Forestry Superintendent Jason Ackerlund, Environmental Improvement Commission member Kay McKeen, and many others gathered at Edison to plant a native White Oak tree to celebrate. Hydrant Flushing Starts SoonThe City’s Water Division is scheduled to begin its Hydrant Flushing Program next week and will continue for several weeks.
